Flagler Beach storm season: before and after photos of your house
On the Flagler Beach barrier island, storm season is what owners who live elsewhere think about most. A1A runs right along the dunes, and an Atlantic storm does not have to come ashore here to reach it.
A1A and the dunes
Through Flagler Beach, A1A sits close to the beach behind a line of dunes. High surf from storms passing offshore has washed over this stretch and closed the road more than once in recent years.
Before: while the storm is days away
Photos taken while a storm is still several days off show the house as it stood: the shutters, the deck and stairs, the walkover to the beach, and anything left under the house or in the yard.
After: when the road and the bridges open
Evacuation orders, closed bridges over the Intracoastal and a closed A1A can keep everyone off the island for days. The after set waits until the island is open again, and then shows what the wind and water moved.
What owners do with the two sets
- Line them up side by side to see what changed
- Send them to a roofer, a contractor or a cleanup crew
- Share them with family or a co-owner who could not be there
Through the end of November
The season ends November 30. A last set late in the season, before the winter rentals begin or before your own return, closes out the year.
